A message & sharing for 12.12.2022

Today is 12 / 12 / 2022…
A very significant day in astrology, about wholeness and completion and a day I feel like sharing the story of how my “Full Cold Moon Photo” happened. It’s really a very simple story, about following our intuition, heart, body and soul to experience magic and divine timing. But somehow the message feels significant to what is being asked of us, at this moment in time…

On the evening before the Cold Full Moon, I left the house knowing that she would rise over the mountains somewhere between 4.30pm and 5pm…

Orginally, in my mind I “thought” I needed to climb up higher to find the “perfect view”…So, I took a path into the forest (I didn’t really want to take it because I knew it was quite rough and steep)…I walked for some time, taking it slowly as I always do…After a while, I was blessed to see a beautiful male Chamois run over my path and hear his call…However, at some stage, my body started to feel tired…I crouched down in the snow and poured myself a chaga chai from my thermos 😊…Still after my chai, it just didn’t feel right to go on…So, I turned back…

I decided instead to collect some pine cones and tree foliage for our home christmas decorations. I had stopped thinking about the moon rising, even though, every now and then, I had a stunning view of the mountains and the beautiful changing light through a momentary forest clearing. Eventually, my forest path ended. Carrying my new gifts from the forest, I made my way back home along a road to our home…I felt happy and relaxed…

I JUST arrived at our front entrance – HOME! I looked towards the mountains in the distance and then saw magnificent Grandmother Moon rising over one of my favourite mountains…

I was stunned! 😲 I could not believe the magical, divine timing. It felt very powerful to see and experience the moon this way from our new home. Knowing that I had chosen to listen and follow my body and heart and not push myself with my mind, made me feel even happier!..

A wonderful confirmation in true BEING, trusting my feelings and really in flow & harmony with the magic surrounding me…

Wishing you all a beautiful day, of listening and following the SUBTLE intuitive messages of your body, heart and soul. 💓

Samhain blessings

In ancient times, the Celtic festival of Samhain was celebrated as a mandatory holiday that lasted not 1 full day…but 3 full days and nights…

As Samhain occurs at roughly the midpoint between the Fall Equinox and the Winter Solstice, it was to mark an ending to the harvest time and the beginning of a new cycle…Celebrating, honouring and connecting deeper with nature’s transition from lightness (summer) to darkness (winter)…

Last night and today (until sunset), is a good moment to reflect on what we have learned during these past months,…What lessons, gifts and wisdom do we wish to take forward into winter?…What are we most grateful for?…🙏

We might also spend some time exploring our shadow,…Recognising beliefs that we have outgrown or any other limitations or ways of being that no longer serve us or resonate.
What are we feeling ready to let go of?…

Seeing ourselves not separate but “in sync” with Mother Natures rhythms and cycles, means;…

…Like our ancestors, we harness the energy available to us, to move forward into a new cycle lighter, more free, and grateful for the lessons our journey provided us…Our energy can expand to encompass new experiences. Or, more simply, we give ourselves permission to go within, and embrace the deep rest, relaxation and quiet, incubation time of winter ❄

Our ancestors and guides are always nearby and offering their support and guidance when needed…We only need to ask!…

Can you feel them and their love surrounding you?…

Getting in sync with Mother Nature’s rhythmns and cycles…

In ancient times, the Celtic festival of Samhain was celebrated as a mandatory holiday that lasted three full days and nights…

Samhain today in the Northern Hemisphere began last evening (October 31) and will end tonight (November 1)…

Today and right now, is a good moment to reflect on what we have learned during these past months,…What lessons, gifts and wisdom do we wish to take forward into winter…? What are we most grateful for?…🙏

We might also recognise beliefs that we have outgrown or any other limitations that we can now freely let go,…

Seeing ourselves not separate but “in sync” with Mother Natures rhythms and cycles, means we harness the energy and opportunities to move forward lighter, more free, and trusting our journey…

Our energy can therefore expand to encompass new experiences and ways of being and sharing more of our true self and gifts in the world…

Our ancestors and guides are always nearby and offering their support when needed! 💓

Springtime Dandelion Medicine: My healing journey with a remarkable plant ally.

Dandelion Spring Tonic: Apple Cider Vinegar with chopped dandelion roots, leaves and flowers

As I am making this Dandelion Spring Tonic from the roots, leaves and flowers of Dandelion – I am being reminded of how wonderful it is that Mother Nature shares her abundant medicinal wild plants to support us on our healing journey through life.

For many beautiful and magical reasons, my love friendship began with dandelion as a small child. However, it was not until later in my mid-twenties, (feeling burned out, and having developed digestive imbalances and food allergies), that I began to reconnect with the ancient medicine of this remarkable healer and plant ally.

My Swiss partner had the herbal wisdom and knowledge of dandelion instilled in him from childhood and throughout his adult life. Often he would go with his Grandparents to collect dandelion in spring, even if they lived inside the city. An example of a delicious, typical and simple springtime dish in Switzerland is a dandelion, walnut and egg salad.

Freshly picked wild, free and delicious dandelion leaves and clover buds with egg, roasted hazelnuts and a dressing of balsamic vinegar, olive oil, lemon juice, honey and seasoning.

When I met Juerg 16 years ago, it was springtime in New Zealand. He showed me the many dandelions growing on his land, and we gathered the leaves and flowers for salads every day. Over time, I got so used to the bitter flavour of dandelion leaves and I found my body craved it!

During Autumn, we collected dandelion roots for tea. We also cleaned, dried, roasted and ground the roots with Juerg’s Grossmama’s antique coffee grinder to make coffee. Often, we stir-fried dandelion greens mixed with other wild weeds in garlic, turmeric, a bit of soy sauce, lemon juice and sesame oil.

Stir-fried dandelion greens mixed with other wild weeds in garlic, turmeric, a bit of soy or tamari sauce, lemon juice, sesame oil and sesame seeds.

Especially in springtime, dandelion is a wonderful natural tonic to stimulate your liver and your immune system – building up strength, shifting and filtering out any toxins from the body, flushing out kidneys, supporting the function of your pancreas and generally bringing your digestive system back into tone and balance.

Tasting dandelion before a meal, (whether in salads, a few drops of a tincture made of the root or a tablespoon of the dandelion vinegar tonic like I have made) helps to stimulate digestion, which in turn can help you to get more vitamins and break down fats in your food because it supports and enhances your stomachs beneficial and natural acids.

I believe that dandelion’s medicinal and overall effect for me was – slow and steady – on my body’s immune and digestive system. Overtime, my heartburn, indigestion, allergies etc balanced out and disappeared. Like a loyal and true friend, dandelion supported me to feel safe and inwardly strong – so that I could dive deeper in my own healing process.

Some of my core wounds related to savouring food came to light for me to face and heal through love, understanding, forgiveness and compassion. I am now confident to say that dandelion medicine enhanced and supported me to begin to truly savour life again – connected to the vitality and joy of my playful inner child.

I began to reconnect again with a world of magic in nature around me – a magical world I had felt intricately a part of as a small child. Since then, my favourite “being-time” in spring has been watching and photographing bees and other pollinators while they collect the pollen of the dandelion – one of the first and most important food sources for bees after winter hibernation.

There are many ways to use & celebrate

the blooming of dandelion flowers in spring!

My recent drawing, “Spring Mountain Man of the Alps”, © Jaymie Elder 2021

If you are collecting dandelions in spring, please always make sure you leave plenty of flowers for the bees and other pollinators. Also, be aware and very careful of areas that may be polluted by poisons like pesticides or harmful fertilizers.

It has been said that the flowers of dandelions have higher levels of antioxidants than the leaves or roots! Other possible benefits include relieving pain from headaches, backaches, and menstrual cramps, stomach cramps and depression. The flowers also contain Vitamin A and Vitamin B12, which are both good for eye health.

In spring (when there are enough flowers), we love to make syrup from the bright yellow flowers together with young pine shoots. Some people also make dandelion wine from the flowers but I have never tried this!

We also have a spring ritual of making healing massage oils from the dandelion flowers. Dandelion oil is exceptionally soothing for tired muscles and can be simply rubbed into tense muscles or joints for relaxation and pain relief.

Flower Fairy Food! – Super Tasty Dandelion Flower Fritters.

Dandelion flower fritters are so easy to make, delicious and full of healthy vitamins, iron and antioxidants. A wonderful, simple recipe to make with children after foraging for dandelion flowers on a sunny day.

To make these dandelion flower fritters: Prepare a simple batter and replace normal flour with rice flour for gluten-free. I used rice milk. Some recipes use a teaspoon of baking powder but I prefer without it! After gathering, make sure you leave the blossoms for some time out in the sun, to let any insects disappear, but don’t wait too long after picking, as they will close up their petals!) Gently dip the flower blossom in the batter and fry both sides in oil.

Ingredients:
Freshly picked dandelion blossoms
1 cup flour (replace with rice flour or other gluten-free flour)
1/2 water or sparkling water

1 cup rice milk or milk
1 egg
1 teaspoon fresh rosemary or (cinnamon if you prefer sweet)!
sea salt
olive oil or coconut oil for frying

About us

Juerg and I have been journeying together for the past 16 years. While Juerg is originally from Switzerland we have both lived and met in New Zealand in 2005. We have since traveled extensively in New Zealand, Australia, Indonesia, Nepal, North America, North Africa and Europe.

Both Juerg and myself are offering support to people who long to connect more deeply with the magic and abundance of Mother Earth, including learning, gathering, and using/cooking with wild medicinal and edible herbs, mushrooms, and other edible wild foods. However, we strongly believe it is not just about benefiting from what Mother Earth has offered us for millions of years but that we also have an obligation to do our inner work, to heal and grow in love and soul wisdom.

We advocate a simple, humble and authentic way of life. For many years, we have lived and traveled in small campervans being as close as possible to nature, in particular mountain regions such as for the past few years in the pre-alpine region of Italy, France and Switzerland.

Over the years, we have created many videos, which can be viewed on Juergs YouTube channel. Juerg is the author of the book “Sacred Journey” which you can learn more about on his website. We have a shared “Sacred Journey” page on Facebook. I regularly post writings and sharings on this blog, which I also link with Instagram.

Both Juerg and I are available for personal guidance and couple sessions via skype. These sessions are for people who long to grow more deeply towards an authentic relationship based on heart and soul love. If you are interested to know more about working with myself or Juerg, please contact us.

Being held by a tree (true) being…

Bring your grief, sadness,
loss of hope, emptiness, despair,
– whatever you are feeling –
to a wise, ancient, tree being.
A true, majestic, spirit friend.

Climb up high
in your tree beings branches,
sit or lay down low
near your tree beings trunk.

Take several long, deep, breaths…
let your heaviness and tears
be comforted by the great
loving arms of your tree beings branches.

Let your hurt
be softened
by peace
as you become one
with your tree (true) being.

Remain with your tree being,
as long as you need too.
Close your eyes,
fall asleep, dream…

Exchange your blessings and gratitude.
– whatever it was you needed –
energy, balance, peace,
unconditional love, wisdom,
courage, inner strength…
you can now move forward on your journey.

Always remember,
the potential for a true friend
– a spirit brother or sister –
exists in the heart and frequency
of all living beings!

We only need to feel,
become more receptive and patient
with an open, loving heart.

Soul work needs no approval or recognition from others – bee symbolism

“Your work is not to drag the world into a new awareness, kicking and screaming.
Your work is to simply do your work, sacredly, secretly and silently
And those with “eyes to see” and “ears to hear” will respond….”
– Unknown

Recently, I have been spending time alone in the beautiful spring nature of the European Alps. Almost as soon as we arrived, I found myself drawn to the alpine wild flowers, abundant, lively bees and colourful hives around me…

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

So what is the message of the bee?

Above all, bee shows us devotion towards a higher purpose and the magical interconnectedness in all of life. Bee is completely devoted to work for the common good of the hive.

This can mirror the commitment we make to our own soul work – the on-going work of healing, transforming, learning and growing towards our higher purpose – Higher Self or spiritual potential.

*   *   *

“Ultimately, this devotion to our soul work
is the greatest service we offer humanity.
When we raise our vibration through healing
and transforming our core wounds (our shadow)

– we influence the greater consciousness

of humanity and all of creation.”

*   *   *

Find that hard to believe? Over many years, I have observed that my own inner work has extended out to influence those around me in subtle ways – family, animals, partnerships, friends or strangers.

Our soul journey of healing and transformation, is unique to each one of us. As we continue on this journey, we can increasingly recognise the value of our inner work. This work does not require the approval or recognition of others! Perhaps this is the most liberating part about our soul work! …No one else in this world has lived, felt, seen and shared the same experiences as each one of us…No one else walks the same path to know and feel their own divinity – their own Higher Self or spiritual essence.

How can we integrate the wisdom of the bee into our own lives
and for our own Soul Journey?

The bee is a symbol for soul wisdom. Bee collects pollen from many flowers and turns it into nourishing honey – the gold of bees. Just so, we collect experiences from the many circumstances of our life – painful, loving, challenging and beautiful…and from these experiences we can extract spiritual gold.

This spiritual gold is a result of our willingness and courage to be honest and true to ourselves,… to feel deeply into our own wounds – our own patterns, beliefs, masks, our shadow personalities, our hurt inner children – all of which long for the light of our conscious awareness, understanding, love, forgiveness and compassion.

Are we devoted to our path of healing (soul work)?

In today’s busy world, it is so easy to distract ourselves from facing and owning how we are truly feeling.

Just like any form of addiction, we can use social media to instantly distract ourselves from our emotions and feelings. Spending hours online, we can get lost amongst endless information, music, videos, nice photographs, “what we want to see” in order to “feel better“. Or, we may take the anger, frustration or helplessness we feel and project huge amounts of energy into endless arguments with people whom we may never meet in person.

These emotions and patterns will always re-surface again and again until we are ready to look at and work with the truth in ourselves. We can try, but in the end we can not hide from the truth. Eventually, when we are ready, our soul calls to us, ….loud enough so that we must pay attention.

We grow in love by having the courage to truly face (not turn away) from our uncomfortable emotions i.e. anger, doubt, fear, sadness, jealousy, etc…. We grow in love by being fully present and honest with ourselves and others. It is simple to write about but not easy to practise in all of our relationships, especially with ourselves.

Let us begin today, in small ways…
those with “eyes to see” and “ears to hear” will respond….

Let us practise being devoted and humble like the bee. Let us start today, in small ways,…becoming more present with our emotions, feelings and allowing our heart to guide us in all our actions.

The more we are practising this in our everyday lives, the more we realise that it is our energy that draws people and experiences to us. Rather than judge the experiences as good or bad / right or wrong, we trust and know that somewhere, somehow…. it is for the highest good of our souls evolution.

With an open mind and heart, we can ask for our own inner guidance to come forward….we delve deeper for the hidden (shadow) learning, messages and wisdom about our own life and journey, which can be reflected back to us through another person, experience or encounter. This is the way of the spiritual alchemist – the humble yet extraordinary bee – collecting pollen (experience) and transforming it into honey (wisdom).

This does not mean we over-analyse situations, experiences and people with our mind. We are inviting the wise, intuitive, feminine or feeling part of our being to come forward and help us to understand, transform, heal and grow.

When we look outside for recognition, rewards or approval for our actions our focus is mis-directed. With humility and devotion like the bee, we know that no matter what the outcome, we must keep moving forward on our journey.

*   *   *

You cannot force someone to comprehend a message
that they are not ready to receive.
But…. never underestimate the power of planting a seed.

*   *   *

The more we are being authentically who we are, (less concerned about what others think or say about us or trying to “prove” something to others)…we are vibrating (buzzing 🙂 ) in our core essence. We are touching others with our energy, dispersing seeds of consciousness, love and truth – meanwhile, always continuing with our own soul work.

This is truly the highest we can bee. 😊

Bee Prayer: Winged spirit of sweetness,
I call on you.
Teach me the ways of
Transformation and fertilisation,
The path from pollen to sweetness honey.
Teach me to taste the essence
Of each place I alight,
Carrying that essence with me
To continue creation’s cycle.
Teach me the ways of hope,
Reminding me that what seems impossible
May yet be achieved.
Flitting tears of the gods,
Draw me ever closer to the wisdom
Hidden within beauty.
Give me flight and sunlight,
Passion and productivity,
Cooperation with those around me
And sharpened strength to defend my home.
May I ever spiral out from my heart,
Searching for what I need,
And return there once again
To turn those lessons into nourishment.
Bee spirit, I call you.

A special gift and message, from the oldest tree in Europe – “Castagne dei Cento Cavalli”.

800px-castagno_dei_cento_cavalli_-_jean-pierre_houel

“Castagno dei Cento Cavalli” – Jean-Pierre Houël (1776-1779)

*Post originally created in Jan 2017, updated 30 Jan 2020*

Known as the 100 Horse Chestnut Tree, (“Castagne de Cento Cavalli”), the ancient tree is considered to be between 2000 and 4000 years old. It is the oldest tree in Europe and the oldest Chestnut Tree in the world. The Tree lives on Mount Etna in Sicily, which is the most active volcano in Europe. The Tree has survived several earthquakes, (which have devastated cities along the east coast of the Island), volcanic eruptions, as well as seen the rise and fall of numerous ancient cultures, over thousands of years.

The name “Castagno de cento Cavalli” (Chestnut Tree of 100 horses) derives from a traditional story in which a queen of Aragon and her company of one hundred knights, during a trip to Mount Etna, were caught in a severe thunderstorm. The Queen and her horsemen all took shelter under the tree.

We visited the tree in winter, just as spring was about to arrive in Sicily. The advantage of this was to see the structure of the ancient trunk and the beauty of the trees form because there was no foliage. After the mystical events that played out over the course of our visit to the tree, (more information to follow) we returned to the tree at a full moon. For me, this was the most memorable, sacred time I spent alone with the ancient tree being.

The following beautiful text (translated from Italian) was taken from a sign, located at the foot of the Chestnut Tree:

Monument Messenger of the Culture of Peace.

Throughout the centuries, the tree has been a favorite destination of men and women of all backgrounds. The tree has brought these people together by their common desire to experience pristine nature, the potential inspirer of superhuman and eternal messages and the means by which we discover the absolute within each of us. Next to this tree, all find harmony with nature and peace with one another and the universe. The passions and anguish within the soul relax as it finds equilibrium and the body finds its well-being.
The site was cherished by visitors in the 18th and 19th centuries for its wild and overgrown appearance, which evoked in their minds the idea of the tree as a symbol of fertility. The chestnut vividly demonstrates the generative power and fecundity of nature. The tree is renowned as a symbol of life force. Around its trunk, it attracts lovers from around the world. Thus, the dialogue between man and nature becomes permanent and infinite, an endless union that brings together the richness and fertility of the tree with the industrious of man. Various rituals and legends are associated with the thousand-year-old chestnut. One fascinating myth tells of a queen named Giovanna, beloved by her retinue of one hundred knights, who all took refuge with her one stormy night under the boughs of this majestic tree.

A Message for the Soul

“When I create my music, I feel like an instrument of nature.
I wonder what delight nature must feel when we open our hearts
and express our God-given talents….

the sound of approval arose across the universe
and the whole world abounds in magic, wonder fills our hearts
for what we have glimpsed for an instant,
the playfulness of life…”
Michael Jackson

*    *    *

There is a harmony, a rhythm in all of creation, which we are a part of.

Every moment, miracles happen before our very eyes, yet we have been programmed to dull our senses and walk through life blindfolded.

The playfulness of life flows through the transparent heart of our inner child.

However, for many of us, this vulnerable child has been forgotten, abandoned, neglected, rejected and deeply hurt.

Can we commit ourselves to the ongoing Inner work of reconnecting with our inner child?…The inner child who longs for our recognition, love, and compassion?

As we progress on this Soul Journey and heal our inner child (children), we become more open to feel and see the magic and wonder, which surrounds us.

We open ourselves more to receive the love and divine guidance of our spirit helpers – in the form of angels, spirit and animal guides or our many ancestors who all walk beside us.

We become more present to each moment and conscious of how we can be of service to humanity, all of life and Mother Earth – through simply being our authentic self, honoring and sharing our soul gifts, unique talents and strengths.

“Cento Cavalli” A newborn, abandoned puppy I found under the 100 Horse Chestnut Tree.
Juerg and I are taking care of Cento Cavalli and after 10 days, he is doing very well.
We named him “Cento Cavalli” or “Cento” to honour the magnificent, ancient tree he was born and found under.
We also believed this name would give him the strength, trust, and resilience he needed – considering he was left without a mother at such a tender, early stage of his life.

UPDATE 30.01.2020: Cento Cavalli has recently celebrated his 3 year anniversary with us. We feel very blessed to have him with us on our journey. We know that the way he came into our lives was very magical and that he is an ancient teacher of the playfulness in life! Cento teaches us to slow down, be in the moment and to always make time to laugh, create simple fun and play together! In October 2019 we returned to the Castagne tree where we found Cento. The time spent there was a wonderful and magical point of reflection on our journey together over 3 years.

Forest Guardians of the Parco delle Madonie, Sicily

Earlier this week, Juerg and I spent another night in the heart of the Parco delle Madonie, Sicily. Madonie is a well known National Park in Sicily, which we have returned to several times in our campervan. We feel drawn to it’s stunning and unique geological landscape, ancient Oak Trees and rocks, wildlife, spring water and abundance of wild herbs and mushrooms.

The park itself is considered to be a botanical paradise. The highest peak reaches around 2,000 metres and contains some 2,600 of Sicily’s plant species and about 150 of the 200 endemic species. Within the park area there are outcrops of rocks which have been dated at over a 200-million-year period.

I had been longing for a chance to go into the forest alone with my camera. I knew a lot of Roe Deer were living together and thriving in this region of the park (around 15oo meters above sea level). I always love to take photos, but I really was asking to experience the silence, feel the magic of this special place and connect with it’s soul.

Juerg said he was happy to spend some time sorting and researching about some of the wild mushrooms he had recently found in the forest. So I left him in our camper, just as the sun was rising up over the mountains and a new day was beginning. For me, early morning is always a special time to photograph and observe wildlife.

The deeper I walked into the forest, I could feel the presence of many eyes and beings watching my every move. 🙂 Some of the Holm Oak Trees in the park are said to be around 800 years old. I felt truly blessed to be able to spend time in the company of the old, wise trees, many deer, 3 dogs (they appeared to be wild but I was not sure!), beautiful small birds and one mysterious cat. 🙂  I could also hear the noises of wild boars in the far distance.

The magical energy of this special place will remain with me forever. The ancient soul of Sicily is revealing herself to us, in all her beauty and mystery….and not only through my camera lense… but in my own soul memory of another time when we both walked together on her soil.

It is an honour to be here!
